De Grasse Confirmed for Kingston 200m Field

World bronze medallists Andre De Grasse, Jeffrey Gibson and Cassandra Tate are among the latest stars confirmed for the Jamaica International Invitational, an IAAF World Challenge Meeting, in Kingston on 7 May.

De Grasse set a 100m PB of 9.92 to finish equal third at the IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015, having set a Canadian 200m record of 19.88 earlier in the season. His competition in Kingston will be his first race on Caribbean soil and his first appearance in the IAAF World Challenge series.

The 21-year-old will line up in the 200m alongside former world record-holder Asafa Powell.

Gibson and Tate, who took bronze medals in the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles respectively in Beijing last year, are also set to compete in Kingston.

In addition, all four members of Jamaica’s gold-medal-winning 4x400m team from Beijing have been confirmed.

Novlene Williams-Mills, Shericka Jackson, Stephenie Ann McPherson and Christine Day will all line up over their specialist distance of 400m in the Jamaican capital. Diamond Race winner Francena McCorory will be among their opponents.

USA’s 2013 world champion Brianna Rollins and 2015 world leader Sharika Nelvis are set to clash in the 100m hurdles.
